Armistice Day commemorates the ending of the First World War on November 11, 1918 and although the US were hardly involved in that conflict it is observed in this country each year in on that date. Here it’s known, of course, as Veterans Day and has come to acknowledge the contribution, often the ultimate one, made by all those who have served in the armed forces.
On this day it’s also worth highlighting Social Security’s eminently readable webpage dedicated to veterans and their families. The page, Information for Military & Veterans | SSA provides a wealth of information on the differences between Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and the VA’s Disability Compensation and notes the crucial factor that veterans may be eligible for both benefits. Importantly, neither benefit affects the other in any way.
You can also access the SSDI on-line application, see how to have that application expedited, and get information on other benefits for veterans and service members.
