One would like to imagine that it was a failing of this writer’s observational powers rather than the lack of promotional ability of the organizers that, but for a fruitless quest for HP sauce* at a local Wegman’s I would not have known that this rapidly diminishing month has been National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

It turns out NDEAM has been recognized since 1988 although its origins can be traced back just after the Second World War when there was an official week-long recognition of the contributions made in the workforce by those with disabilities.

This year, the Department of Labor, which administers NDEAM, has focused its efforts in “Celebrating Value and Talent”, which seem like a couple of nouns worthy of an annual pat on the back at the very least.

The agency has put some effort into its promotion and created a different activity for each day of October. Late to the game as we are, we can point you in the direction of the remainder of options, including a winning PSA on “Working Works” (“Working Works” PSA | What Can YOU Do?).
