The hugely accomplished and still yet to be fully acknowledged Scottish band, Belle and Sebastian, were once admonished by their record company for supplying less than catchy album titles. They duly followed up “The Boy with the Arab Strap” with “Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant”.  Both were beautiful creations and well worth a listen, but if they failed to capture the wallet of the general public their hard to recall and enigmatic titles at least erred on the side of poetry.

There is little time for such language in the world of Social Security benefits and the title of this little blog emphasizes that reality. To fully explain: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients are basically eligible for Economic Income Payments (EIP), also known as stimulus payments, but the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), who are working on providing all eligible Americans with the stimulus payments, don’t know for sure who is eligible. To make their lives easier they are asking that everyone on SSI submit a tax return for 2020. The message has been heeded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and they have recently taken it upon themselves to send out admirably clearly worded letters to SSI beneficiaries explaining that they should submit those tax reports, and how they can do so.

So, if you are an SSI recipient and you do receive a letter from SSA do make sure that you open it. If you haven’t already received the stimulus payments do follow the instructions and you will be in good stead for a little financial support.

SSA did produce a sample letter that looks like this: English Version of SSI EIP.pdf (ssa.gov)
