Maryland’s Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) has long understood the need to provide funding to children and adults in the community in order that they might lead happier and more fully integrated lives in the community. What was once called Rolling Access became , in 2009, Low Intensity Support Services (LISS).

The LISS program’s purpose is to provide grants to eligible Marylanders that they can spend on such things as assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and even medical expenses that aren’t covered by insurance.

Such have been the financial constraints on the DDA, they’ve only ever been able to provide $2000 to each recipient and not everyone who’s ever been eligible qualifies. Instead there’s always been a Random Selection Process to determine who gets the funds.

Unfortunately, this year DDA’s had to do more belt tightening and the individual grant amount is going down to $1000. On the positive side, if you feel you may qualify, now’s the time to strike. Applications are being accepted until September 15.
