Unlike many annual changes in the benefits world, which are announced on a fairly rigid schedule, recent history has shown that we can never quite be sure when the new thresholds for 1619(b) are going to be announced. Fortunately, this year there hasn’t been much of a wait, as the figures have been posted.

It’s always worth remembering that Continued Medicaid Eligibility under Section 1619(B) of the Social Security Act is the crucial work incentive that allows those on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to continue to remain eligible for Medical Assistance even if their earned income has caused their SSI monthly payments to be reduced to $0.

And this year in Maryland the threshold is up again. In 2025 the figure stood at an impressive $57,296 but this year it’s climbed a healthy $5,000 or so and will now stand at $62,929, That keeps working Marylanders on SSI among the luckier beneficiaries in the nation. For the record, the highest threshold is in Minnesota, where you can earn up to $84,206 a year and still keep your MA; whilst poor old Alabamans are at the other end of the scale and can only earn up to $40,026.
