Originally launched by Governor Wes Brown back in 2024 Maryland’s Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program, which trades under the SUN Bucks title, is back for another year.
SUN Bucks is the state’s provision to allow eligible families with children aged between 5 and 18 to receive an extra $40 a month in SNAP payments per child through June, July and August. In so doing they are covered to some extent from the loss of free and reduced meals they receive during the school year.
If your kids already receive the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals (FARMS) or if the family already has SNAP, Medical Assistance, Temporary Cash Assistance, you should be automatically enrolled and receiving those payments right now.
You can also apply to be in the program even if you don’t meet any of those criteria, although you will need to meet the income guidelines for the National School Luch Program (NSLP), which for a family of four is monthly income below $3,483.
